Antioch College mourns the loss but celebrates the life of Trustee Emerita Frances Degen Horowitz ’54. Her dedication, vision, intelligence, generosity, kindness, and extraordinary leadership brought out the best of the alumni to save and revitalize our college. She is survived by wonderful family, friends, and colleagues but also by thousands of Antiochians for whom her memory will always be a blessing.

A distinguished scholar in developmental psychology, Dr. Horowitz was as well a very gifted academic leader at several major universities, including City University of New York Graduate School, where she served as president and president emeritus. To her alma mater, Antioch College, she dedicated many years of wise stewardship. She served on the Alumni Board and as a Board Trustee, finally serving as Trustee Chair in the critical period of start up and accreditation.

In honor of her legacy, the College has founded the Frances Degen Horowitz ’54 Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to students with significant financial needs who are a member of an underrepresented group majoring in psychology and/or social sciences. Special consideration will be given to students in their third and/or fourth year of study to assist them in completing their degrees. Please contact the Office of Advancement for details: advancement@antiochcollege.edu, 937-767-2341.

A Shiva memorial gathering open to Antioch Friends will be held virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, March 23, 7:00 EDT. If you wish to attend, please contact Anita Brown for details.

If you would like to share a remembrance for posting on the College’s website, you may send an email to communications@antiochcollege.edu, or write to:
