2026 REUNION RECAP!
This month we welcomed home many of our beloved Alumni for the 2026 Reunion FEAST.
Throughout the weekend our campus came to life as classmates reconnected, alumni met with current students, and our faculty and staff engaged with alumni. Each moment a special piece of what made the entire weekend the unforgettable experience that it was.

40 REMARKABLE YEARS OF VWP
For four decades the Antioch College Volunteer Work Project has been the prime example of what meaningful work and service as an Antiochian looks like. Season after season in the dead of winter or the heat of summer our alumni gather together to volunteer their time and talents to the College. Volunteers work alongside staff offering administrative support and alongside our facilities team tackling large projects that ensure our campus looks its best for our students. It’s a tradition rooted in what makes Antioch the place that it is – a place that values community, meaningful work, and contribution to the common good.
Thank you Volunteer Work Project for all that you do year after year, and here’s to the next 40 years!

STUDENTS WRAP UP ECOFARM AND FOOD FORESTING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
The EcoFarm and Food Foresting Certificate Program is coming to a close this month after three weekends of hands-on learning at the Antioch Farm.
“I’m able to share my family history with regenerative farming that l have learned from my father and grandfather with farming practices predating the 1960s and pre World War II methods,” said Bruce Linebaugh, Antioch College Farm Manager.
Throughout the month, participants have learned about:

Soil Health, Nutrient Cycling & Small Farm/Garden Planning
- Specialty Crops for the Market Garden & Community Engagement
- Regenerative Practices, Native Plants & Food Forest Pollinators
“What I have enjoyed most about the EcoFarm program is watching folks show up and get their hands in the soil. There is something powerful about learning by doing, planting seeds, preparing beds, and spreading mulch as a collective. I love seeing participants connect with the Antioch Farm and walk away with practical skills they can take back to their own communities, gardens, and farms,” said A Tassy program participant and Antioch College Work Program Manager.

ROOTS AND WINGS YOUTH CAMPERS ENJOY A WEEK AT ANTIOCH COLLEGE
The Antioch College Wellness Center hosted a group of youth campers throughout the first week of July.
Campers participated in activities meant to help plant life skills for grounded and confident growth. Programming included learning from Antioch Farm Manager Bruce Linebaugh about the College’s produce and chickens, practicing cooking skills in the Antioch Kitchens, exercising creativity through daily crafting, movement and exercise during yoga sessions, and social awareness activities aligned with the mission of our Coretta Scott King Center.
Many of the campers from last year returned for another year of adventures at Antioch College. We are already looking forward to another great year of adventures.

DAVID F. VINCENT ’65 RECEIVES A 2ND LINE CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR HIS DEDICATION TO THE VOLUNTEER WORK PROJECT

The Volunteer Work Project (VWP) hosted a celebration to honor David Vincent ’65, who recently passed away, and his decades long commitment to the VWP on July 15, 2026. David was known for his early arrival to the three annual work projects where he would invite members to attend; organize the lodging in West, North or Birch; make up the volunteer beds; organize the hospitality; decorate the campus with flowering plants and colorful streamers; and of course, paint the Foundry Theater doors and railings red! His attention to detail and his welcoming style made him a favorite among the VWP team
(though he could be irascible!)
Approximately 30 volunteers formed a First Line procession led by Beth Richards driving the Mann Lift (a hydrologic Cherry Picker that David named after our first President, Horace Mann!). Followed by Aaron Knell, a trumpeter, playing a dirge in the back of a truck driven by Chris Westhoff, Foundry Theater director. The assembled party waved white hankies provided by Barrie Grenell, such a nice touch! The group walked down Livermore Street onto Campus, past the Amphitheater (that David helped paint) and up to the Foundry Theater where David painted the doors and railings fire engine red more than once.
A ceramic plaque created by Evelyn LaMers was planted with David’s ashes between
two new flowering bushes in the garden. Beth Richards read Mary Oliver’s poem, When
Death Comes. A Second Line formed and Aaron played “When the Saints Go Marching” as the group processed to the back of the Theater.
There they circled the new Flaming Red Maple that Tom LaMers, a member of the Yellow Springs Tree Committee, had purchased, planted, and fenced in a hole dug by a team of VWP warriors in the heat of an Ohio Summer day. More of David’s ashes were
placed at the base of the tree.
Then Beth Richards, in the Mann Lift, placed new ribbon streamers on the bar over the
newly named and refurbished “David Vincent Stage Door”; funded by Barrie Grenell,
Paula Treichler, Jim Spangler, Megan Trolander, and Catherine Jordan. A group photo
was taken.
Folks entered the theater through David’s door to the theater lobby where a feast of
Meyer Lemon bars made by Evelyn LaMers, using David’s mother’s recipe from lemons
harvested from his tree in California and sent to her by Ellen Fiss were consumed!
Champagne and Sparkling cider were imbibed as Chris Westhoff and Arron Knell
played songs and the crowd told stories and anecdotes about our lives with David.
David was a VWP champion. He loved Antioch, he loved us and we loved him. He will
be missed and remembered for many VWP sessions to come.

REUNION “FUND A NEED” DINNER RAISES $100,000 FOR CAMPUS PRIORITIES
The generosity of our alumni community was on full display during this year’s Reunion Fund A Need Dinner. Together, attendees raised over $100,000 to support several high-impact campus projects, including faculty professional development, climate control improvements for North and Birch, a welcoming new entrance to the Foundry, landscaping equipment, and continued restoration of the Main Building and Kelly Hall.
To everyone who contributed—thank you. We are continually inspired by the way our alumni show up for the college that shaped them, strengthening our community and ensuring that future generations of Antiochians can learn, grow, and thrive here.
Thank you for making this year’s Reunion not only a celebration of our shared history, but a meaningful investment in Antioch’s future.
HONORING A TRANSFORMATIVE TEACHER
The legacy of Antioch is carried forward not only through its buildings, but through the educators whose influence continues to shape lives long after graduation. As part of the Main Building restoration, Rick Friedman, ’76, Jeff Friedman, ’81, and Ken Friedman, ’83 have chosen to name a conference room in honor of beloved professor Al Denman, recognizing the profound impact he had on their Antioch experience and on generations of students.
Their tribute is a powerful reminder that the relationships formed in Antioch’s classrooms are among the College’s greatest strengths—and that honoring those who inspired us is one meaningful way to invest in its future:
“Al Denman was an inspirational professor for generations of Antioch students, and certainly for my brothers and me. His curiosity and love of learning was contagious, and he challenged us to engage thoughtfully with diverse perspectives on every subject. Al embodied the very best of an Antioch education. It’s no exaggeration to say that he changed the course of our lives. We are grateful.”

Arrivals, Departures, Transitions, and Milestones
|
NEW FACULTY HIRES:
Kerri Shaw, Associate Professor of Cooperative Education: Kerri Shaw joins us from Ohio University, where she held a professorship of instruction and served as director of OU’s Community Health Workforce Program. She holds a MSW from Ohio University. Kerri brings a wealth of experience in the community health and social work fields, with specific attention to curriculum development, networking with affiliate agencies and organizations, and grant writing.
Max Soaris Miehlstein, Postdoctoral Fellow in Cooperative Education and Community-Based Learning: Max Miehlstein is completing his Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. His research centers on the psychology of identity and artistic expression. Max is eager to leverage his experience in community-based and interdisciplinary research projects to guide Antioch students completing field research on their co-ops.
Kevin Matteson, Associate Professor of Environmental Science and Biology: Kevin Matteson joins us from Miami University Ohio. He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and an MS in Biological Sciences from Fordham University. At Miami, Kevin led Project Dragonfly — a master’s degree program in ecology with over 750 enrolled students. Kevin brings expertise in entomology, conservation biology, and environmental education, with a specific focus on urban landscapes. Kevin will also serve as Director of the Antioch Farm, where he will lead entrepreneurial initiatives and program development.
Nathan Lipps, Visiting Assistant Professor of Writing: Nathan Lipps joins us from Central State University. Nathan holds a Ph.D. from Binghamton University and an MFA from Wichita State University. Nathan brings expertise in basic composition, creative writing, and literature, as well as theme-based writing courses grounded in the environmental humanities. Nathan is interested in reviving the Antioch Writers’ Workshop next summer.
Bailey Frye, Visiting Instructor of Mathematics: Bailey Frye is completing his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Toledo. He joins Antioch excited to teach developmental and intermediate mathematics courses from an applied liberal arts framework. Bailey is interested in teaching physics courses during upcoming Block terms.
