The works of acclaimed artist Emma Amos ’58 will be featured in an exhibition at the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia starting this week.

Amos—a painter, weaver, and printmaker whose work explores the issues of power, race, identity, culture, and the struggle for freedom of expression—was born in Atlanta, GA, in 1937 and passed away on May 20th, 2020 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Amos enrolled at Antioch College in 1953 at the age of 16 after hearing from her father that he thought it was “a very forward-looking school.” Read about The Life of Emma Amos, including Emma’s Antioch Adventure.

The exhibition, Emma Amos: Color Odyssey, will premiere on Saturday, Jan 30, 2021, and will run until Sunday, Apr 25, 2021. It features a survey of her work over 60 years, and a catalogue with essays will be published. After the show closes in April, the exhibition will travel to the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute and then the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
