Antioch College wishes to express its deep outrage at the failure of a Louisville, Kentucky grand jury to provide a process for securing truth and justice for Breonna Taylor and specifically for not holding her killers accountable. We stand in solidarity with her family and the families of all other victims of racist police violence and against the systemic perpetuation of a society based in fear and hatred, and enforced through violence.
We believe it is crucially important to recognize the huge emotional and physical toll these latest actions are taking (yet again) on Black people and people of color everywhere. That already enormous burdens and heavy hearts are made heavier defies even the most basic standards of decency and dignity.
The poet Maya Angelou said, “Hope and fear cannot occupy the same space. Choose one.”
We choose hope. And we choose justice without which there can be no peace.
Say her name: Breonna Taylor. Say their names.
