In this course, students develop a solid understanding of the principles of animation and the art of motion and time. This class will introduce students to digital and traditional technical skills and concepts of animation. They will explore the basics of both stop-motion and digital hand-drawn animation and will also cover the various animation technologies and software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Animate, and Stop Motion Studio). Students will also learn about contemporary animation and animation history. MEDA265 will include a mixture of demos, exercises, learning, and experimenting, which will culminate in the creation of a short, final animation.

Yokoyama attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2017) and graduated from CalArts (2017) with a Masters in Fine Art from the Department of Experimental Animation. She received a Bachelor of Arts from New York University, Gallatin School of Individualized Studies (2010) with a specialization in Sustainable Development, New Digital Media and Contemporary Art Theory.

Midst of Bliss, an exhibition of new ceramic and video work by Amia Yokoyama, is currently on exhibition at Lieu Gallery in Los Angeles, CA, which runs until February 6, 2021.
