Antioch College Associate Professor of Biology and Environmental Science Kim Landsbergen will present an Earth Day talk, Looking Back and Looking Ahead: An Ecologist’s Overview of the Trump Era Environmental Legacy.

This talk, to be held on Thursday, April 22, at 7 PM EDT, is free and open to the public and will be hosted virtually. Registration is online.

The GOP Platform passed in the summer of 2016 was clear in its intent to radically change environmental policy and protections. During the Trump administration the Executive Branch delivered as much as possible on this vision, ranging from personnel purges, rule (re)making, and ceasing to enforce environmental laws as previously done. Dr. Landsbergen’s talk aims to provide an overview of major impacts, but recognizes that the ripples of impact are still being felt and will take many decades to comprehend and mend. Attendees will also look ahead at the Biden Administration and changes to come.

Dr. Landsbergen is a forest ecosystem scientist who joined the faculty of Antioch College in 2014. Her research has examined the structure and function of forests, from trees to soils to canopies. Her research has also examined the potential impacts of climate change on forest carbon dynamics as well as invasive species biology. She is a certified senior ecologist through the Ecological Society of America. At Antioch College, she mentors students in research and independent study projects and teaches courses in Plant Biology, Ecology, Soils and Applied Science. A scientist who believes in the application of science in policymaking, Dr. Landsbergen has been engaged in Environmental and Social Justice policy issues at the state and national level, engaging in direct action as well as citizen lobbying for change.
