Global Political Economy
Students work with faculty advisors to devise self-designed majors. Coursework in the major builds upon students’ experiences in the general education curriculum while providing students with pathways to deepen their knowledge or further develop their passion in a particular area of study.
Studying Global Political Economy at Antioch College
Global political economy program centers on interdisciplinary examinations of capitalism, politics, and society. Students examine a range of academic fields and topics, including: the development of the global economy, political science and public policy; economic theory; capitalism and the environment; geopolitics and international affairs; business, technology, and society; media and cultural production; and political and social movements.
Students often combine their studies of political economy with coursework in other fields, such as anthropology, psychology, the environmental sciences, and media arts, to create dynamic self-designed majors tailored to their specific interests and aspirations.
After completing their degrees, global political economy students have gone on to work in the corporate, government, and non-profit sectors, and have gained acceptance to graduate programs and law schools.

Antioch students apply what they’re learning in the classroom to engage the core social and ecological problems of our times through co-op opportunities in the U.S. and around the world.
Among other opportunities, our students have :
- Addressed the global migration crisis by providing legal services to immigrants and refugees
- Advocated for social justice at the Black Alliance for Just Immigration
- Supported the global peace movement through co-ops at the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition in Nagasaki, Japan
- Fought income inequality through worker empowerment get firsthand experience at a worker-owned optical technology firm
- Traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to support local environmental organizations fighting global climate change
